First Look at the Coupe

It was a few weeks later on, on the 14th June 2008 that I first saw the Coupe. It belonged to Lou and Nettie Lewis over in West Auckland. Thay had been building the car since about 1994, but it had been on the back burner since the early 2000's.

Once I'd seen the car there was no longer any hesitation. The car was far more complete than I had first envisaged and Lou and I were able to agree on a price. Lou was also happy to wait until I had managed to sell the Rambler which would prove to be quite important, as it took months to sell.

Where it all started

I have wanted a 33 Ford Coupe since I was 11 years old. I used to see one on my way to school most days and thought "I'm gonna own one of those one day".

It has taken a while, some 35 years in fact, to even be able to consider owning such a car, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard of a 33 Ford Coupe project being available, while I was at a meeting at the North Shore Rod and Custom Club. That was on 4th June 2008. I was pretty keen as you can imagine but at the same time, I was a bit hesitant as I owned a 64 Rambler American that was road legal and in regular use. Its a big decision to give up something like that to go to a project that could well take years to get on the road.
